Andrew Simpson

Andrew Simpson
- Exercise Physiologist, Clinic Co-Founder

Andrew Simpson has always been passionate about exercise and the therapeutic effects it has on our bodies, so following a career as an exercise physiologist was a natural choice.

He believes that everyone should have the ability to enjoy being physically active and leading a life that is not constrained by mobility deficits.

Andrew earned his Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science from Griffith University Gold Coast Campus and a Bachelor of Business from the same institute.

Additionally he has certifications in Kinetic Link Training and Group Facilitation.

He started his career in 2006 working as a cardiac physiologist in Queens Hospital, Roehampton, predominately doing cardiac investigations. When he returned to Australia he focused on workplace rehabilitation and return to work in Central Queensland. While there he also facilitated injury prevention programs with mining companies.

Wanting to develop another skill, he then moved into health and wellness, helping executives maintain healthy lifestyles with exercise interventions.

Following that he started My Health Team with Mark Antonello in January 2012 where they combined experience to create a collaborative healthcare that helps people live healthier and happier lives.

Andrew loves working with people who have a strong desire to live an active life. A lot of his clients see the mobility issues their parents or friends are going through and want to avoid that themselves. He specialized in developing programs for those who have difficulty exercising due to aches or pains, particularly for those aged fifty plus.

When he is not working he enjoys spending time with his two beautiful young children. When they are not doing fun things as a family, he loves spending time surfing, cycling, and mountain biking.

Jacinta King

Jacinta King

Bachelor of Physiotherapy at ACU, Brisbane.

I am a new graduate, having recently graduated from my Bachelor in December 2019 I gained all my experience from completing 6 x 5 week blocks of placement at various hospitals/clinics where I developed interests in finding better exercise-based rehab programs for patients. During my studies I worked as a sports trainer where I gained experience in managing/treating acute MSK injuries and found an interest in sports physiotherapy.

I always knew I wanted to work in health, and more importantly, to help people in a practical way. I value human interaction and believe it to be important to get to know people in order to help treat them, which is something I think physiotherapists are known to be good at. I also find it very enjoyable to see people finding positive results from physiotherapy and leading healthier lifestyles.

I’m a sports lover, having played many sports growing up. I currently play state-league AFL which I absolutely can’t get enough of! I adore the outdoors, you’ll often find me at the beach or wanting to hike some mountain with friends. I also love to have a jam on the guitar and go to gigs when I can.

Where You Received Your Experience

My clinical placements and my research experience during my final year of university have allowed me to gain a great exposure into the field of physiotherapy. Since graduation, I have worked in a private practice and an aged care setting. From these experiences I have been able to hone my skills in various musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiorespiratory assessments and treatments.

When did you join My Health Team?

Late August 2020

Why Did You Become A Physiotherapist?

Growing up, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the health sector, but I wasn’t too sure what exactly. Watching my cousin, a new-grad physio at that time, enjoy her new love for rehabilitation, peaked my interest. My curiosity combined with my passion to help others were the key motivators that allowed me to pursue a career in physiotherapy. Since then, I have grown to love physiotherapy and all of its various aspects.

What Do You Do When You Are Not Working (Hobbies, Community Work, Etc.) Outside of work,

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and friends, whether it is eating out, shopping or even going to gym. I enjoy volunteering at church and fellowship events. Recently, I have grown an interest in gardening, especially growing Indian vegetables.

Experience

I joined My Health Team in January 2020 as a new graduate physiotherapist. I finished my Masters in Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland in 2019, in which during my last year I spent 4 months working at various hospitals and clinics around Brisbane as a Physiotherapist. In 2016 I completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training in North Carolina, USA and maintained my certification as a Licensed Athletic Trainer in the USA.

Education (Each Degree and Where Received)

Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, Catawba College, North Carolina USA

Master in Physiotherapy Studies, University of Queensland

Certifications

Certified in Introductory Dry Needling

Licensed Athletic Trainer in USA

Why Did You Become A Physical Therapist?

I have always been a massive sports fanatic and grew up playing every sport possible. Once I found my niche which was Tennis, I competed at a very high level including receiving a tennis scholarship to go play in the USA. I always knew that I wanted to be in a career around health and sport as I started developing a large passion for anatomy and biomechanics in high school. My bachelor’s degree fit exactly what I was after as I was able to experience working as a health care professional for athletic teams at my school as well as working in Professional Baseball during the summer breaks. I always had the intention in moving back over to this side of the world and I was lucky enough to find a Physiotherapy program that complemented my bachelor’s degree perfectly and allow me to practice in Australia.

What Do You Do When You Are Not Working (Hobbies, Community Work, Etc.)

I truly believe in a good work life balance and making the most out of the time you do have away from work. I spend a lot of my time with my loved ones, whether that be exploring and doing activities or staying in at home. I have a very competitive nature so I love hanging out with friends playing trivia, board games, going out to dinner or attending sporting events. A lot of my nights on the weekend are centered around football, including playing competitively and watching the English Premier League.

Lasca Cool

Lasca Cool
– Accredited Practising Dietitian

Nutrition has been a passion of Lasca's for a long time, well before she had even graduated high school. This interest stemmed from her experience in competitive sport, where she began noticing the strong links between nutrition and general wellbeing, performance and cognition. Combined with her strong desire to help others feel their best, it was only natural that Lasca pursued a Bachelor of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences and Master of Dietetics Studies at the University of Queensland to become an Accredited Practising Dietitian with the Dietitians Association of Australia.

Lasca strongly believes in a holistic approach to health. Factors such as sleep, stress, physical activity, environment, feelings and beliefs and their impact on an individual’s nutritional status and dietary patterns are all important considerations in the big picture of health. My Health Team is a perfect fit for this vision, and Lasca joined the team in 2020, practicing out of Redcliffe and Bald Hills clinics.

Fostering positive and sustainable relationships with food using individually tailored advice is essential to helping people achieve their goals, and this is deeply engrained in Lasca's approach to nutrition. She loves food so naturally she wants you to love it too! General nutrition, weight management and chronic disease management are all areas of interest for Lasca, with a particular interest in gut health and sports nutrition. She will complete a Sports Nutrition Course in November 2018 to become an Accredited Sports Dietitian.

In her free time, Lasca enjoys spending time with family and friends, snuggling up with her two cats (dog lovers please don’t hold this against her), roaming nurseries for new plants to add to her indoor plant collection, and getting out in the sunshine (or into the gym) for a good sweat session.
