Andrew Simpson

Andrew Simpson
Exercise Physiologist and Owner

Andrew Simpson has always been passionate about exercise and the therapeutic effects it has on our bodies, so following a career as an exercise physiologist was a natural choice.

He believes that everyone should have the ability to enjoy being physically active and leading a life that is not constrained by mobility deficits.

Andrew earned his Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science from Griffith University Gold Coast Campus and a Bachelor of Business from the same institute.

Additionally he has certifications in Kinetic Link Training and Group Facilitation.

He started his career in 2006 working as a cardiac physiologist in Queens Hospital, Roehampton, predominately doing cardiac investigations. When he returned to Australia he focused on workplace rehabilitation and return to work in Central Queensland. While there he also facilitated injury prevention programs with mining companies.

Wanting to develop another skill, he then moved into health and wellness, helping executives maintain healthy lifestyles with exercise interventions.

Following that he started My Health Team with Mark Antonello in January 2012 where they combined experience to create a collaborative healthcare that helps people live healthier and happier lives.

Andrew loves working with people who have a strong desire to live an active life. A lot of his clients see the mobility issues their parents or friends are going through and want to avoid that themselves. He specialized in developing programs for those who have difficulty exercising due to aches or pains, particularly for those aged fifty plus.

When he is not working he enjoys spending time with his two beautiful young children. When they are not doing fun things as a family, he loves spending time surfing, cycling, and mountain biking.

Experience

I joined My Health Team in January 2020 as a new graduate physiotherapist. I finished my Masters in Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland in 2019, in which during my last year I spent 4 months working at various hospitals and clinics around Brisbane as a Physiotherapist. In 2016 I completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training in North Carolina, USA and maintained my certification as a Licensed Athletic Trainer in the USA.

Education (Each Degree and Where Received)

Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, Catawba College, North Carolina USA

Master in Physiotherapy Studies, University of Queensland

Certifications

Certified in Introductory Dry Needling

Licensed Athletic Trainer in USA

Why Did You Become A Physical Therapist?

I have always been a massive sports fanatic and grew up playing every sport possible. Once I found my niche which was Tennis, I competed at a very high level including receiving a tennis scholarship to go play in the USA. I always knew that I wanted to be in a career around health and sport as I started developing a large passion for anatomy and biomechanics in high school. My bachelor’s degree fit exactly what I was after as I was able to experience working as a health care professional for athletic teams at my school as well as working in Professional Baseball during the summer breaks. I always had the intention in moving back over to this side of the world and I was lucky enough to find a Physiotherapy program that complemented my bachelor’s degree perfectly and allow me to practice in Australia.

What Do You Do When You Are Not Working (Hobbies, Community Work, Etc.)

I truly believe in a good work life balance and making the most out of the time you do have away from work. I spend a lot of my time with my loved ones, whether that be exploring and doing activities or staying in at home. I have a very competitive nature so I love hanging out with friends playing trivia, board games, going out to dinner or attending sporting events. A lot of my nights on the weekend are centered around football, including playing competitively and watching the English Premier League.

Lauren Payne

Lauren Payne
Physiotherapist

Lauren joined My Health Team in 2024 as a qualified physiotherapist with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Australian Catholic University. During her studies, she worked in many different hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation centres across Queensland which left her with some great experiences across most areas of Physiotherapy. Lauren’s key interests of physiotherapy thus far are centred around pre/post joint replacement surgeries, neurological rehabilitation, and geriatric care.

Why Did You Become A Physical Therapist?

I spent a large portion of my childhood, teenage years and adulthood playing all types of sport including netball, volleyball, basketball, soccer (you name it, I probably played it), with my main sport always being netball. I was fortunate enough to represent my region, state, and country, visiting all over Australia playing indoor netball and I have met some incredible people along the way. Not only am I from a sporting background but when I was in my early teenage years, my godmother was sadly diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome, leaving her completely paralysed for a period. My interest in physiotherapy really soared when I was spending many hours at her hospital bedside, watching the rehabilitation process, and assisting the physiotherapists with her exercises. Being given the opportunity to see these physios at work, assisting someone who was very vulnerable, get back on their feet was very inspiring for myself. From this day forward, I knew physiotherapy was a career that required an undeniable passion for working with people in vulnerable times to help them achieve their goals, big or small.

What Do You Do When You Are Not Working?

As mentioned, a lot of my time outside work is taken up by my netball life. Whether this be training or games, social or competitive, there is a lot of netball that goes on in my life. When I am not at work or on the netball court, you can find me spending time with loved ones including my fur babies, watching professional sporting games such as the Australian Diamonds and the Socceroos, or enjoying some much-needed downtime wrapped up in my book of the week.
